Move of the Month: 3/14

Congratulations to Jan Maggs at Screwfix, who has been promoted from her role as Head of HR and OD to a board level HR Directorship.

Prior to joining the Yeovil-based hardware giant, Jan held two HR Directorships at Somerfield (Support Centre and Group Services, then Corporate) and was educated at Warwick University, where she graduated in Modern and Renaissance History.

Screwfix has been lauded as a great success story of late. From a business that started off selling screws from a catalogue consisting of a single sheet of paper, it’s grown to lead the market in trade and DIY supplies and expanded under such brands such as Plumbfix and Electricfix.

This week, it was announced that Screwfix intends to open another 60 stores. They already have over 200 stores and 5,000 employees.

Maggs has said that she considers employee engagement to be one of her main focuses going forward. So by way of assistance, we’d like to offer one or two ideas for motivational posters.

‘Success is a staple round here’, ‘Let’s clamp down on absenteeism’, ‘Do your level best,’ ‘Don’t be lathey’ and the rather less than succinct ‘To all those who filled in their EOS, thanks for being re-pliers.’
