Move of the Month: 10/13
Siobhan Martin joins the elite at Mercer - taking an incredibly varied cv with herCongratulations to Siobhan Martin, who has recently been appointed as UK HR Director for Mercer, and a member of their UK Board and UK Leadership team. In case you’ve been living in an HR cupboard for the last twenty years, you’ll recognise Mercer as the large US-based HR consultancy with things to say in areas as diverse as health, talent, retirement and investments.
She replaces Mark Moorton, who is now HRD of Specsavers. (‘Should have gone to Specsavers?’ ‘He did!’ Ouch, our aching sides.)
Anyway, Martin has held a number of positions with Mercer both in the UK and Australia, and her CV includes a stint at Cap Gemini Ernst & Young (as was). But it’s when you look at her incidental work as a mentor, culture-vulture and values-driver that you really begin to get an impression of what an asset she truly is.
Martin’s Sheen
Martin is a patron of the MD Charitable Foundation (which works for better outcomes in poor communities in India) and a member of the Church Council of All Hallows by the Tower.
She’s also an executive sponsor of Mercer’s UK LGBTA and Women’s networks, initiatives which contributed to an international Diversity Award and a placement in the Sunday Times Top 50 employers for women in 2011.
But whoa! It doesn’t stop there. Martin is also an executive sponsor of the company’s LGBT network, and the Vine, the UK women’s network. In Australia, she was involved with mentoring organisation Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Lord Mayor’s Charitable Fund, an Aussie Rules football club and the Australian Business Arts Foundation. Oh, and she’s also a leading light of the European Professional Women’s Network.
The moral here is: if you want to join the leadership team for a massive HR consultancy, get some brownie points on your CV. Staying home at nights playing Candy Crush and watching Bake Off just doesn’t seem to cut it anymore.
